Do we buy something unique when buying original work? Something the artist has touched, communicating with us. When showing my work, I feel I am allowing someone to look inside my brain.

AI cannot recreate the beauty of a handmade book. Open studios do not have robot artists. The joy of seeing an artist working surrounded by unique tools cannot be replaced by AI. I recently visited the 2026 Spring Fling Open Studios.

Artists fear being replaced. AI is tool and artist. We must excel where AI cannot.

Using AI to design logos might save money but may not be memorable. It can write adequate artist's statements or start research. We should concentrate on AI applications to save lives and improve efficiency. Photography didn't obliterate painting. We must ride the storm confidently. Positive applications exist but should not be used indiscriminately.
